Few environments are more difficult to master than those underwater. The incompressible liquid, which represents almost three-quarters of the Earth’s surface can require a design suitable for the most demanding conditions. Requirements such as being watertight, the prevention of corrosion and the ability to withstand harsh weather and wave forces pose difficult challenges in terms of knowledge of materials and durability. Svekon and its customers have built up a broad bank of knowledge and extensive experience as to how these challenges should be approached. Through the years, robust and reliable solutions have been manufactured, from instruments for underwater robots to the construction of waterjets.
Marine applications
DEVELOPMENT AT SEA
MATERIAL CHOICE
When it comes to water environments, the choice of materials is a critical factor. Corrosion resistance, fluidity and the mechanical properties underwater conspire to put our knowledge of materials to the test. Svekons employees have a solid understanding of the properties of current materials.
CALCULATIONS
To assure ourselves of how the hull and other structures may be affected by flow forces, waves or water pressure, we do general FEM calculations and simulations that demonstrate how the proposed load will be affected. Detailed FEM calculations of the components are also carried out, both to meet the specific load conditions, but also to meet the requirements of classification societies.
INTEGRATED SYSTEMS
Mechanical constructions with moving parts and salt water is not the best combination. This places high demands on knowledge of embedded systems, such as lubrication systems, electronics, sacrificial and sealing systems. Because we have experience with these systems, we can quickly help you find the right solution for your application.
CLASSIFICATIONS
The marine industry includes classification societies, which place high demands on the documentation of waterborne products. We can help you to determine the requirements that govern your product and to ensure that the product meets the societies’ specific requirements and that the legal foundation is traceable. For example, IP ratings, and DNV certifications are common when a product is going to come into contact with water. Our employees have a good knowledge of the industry regarding these directives and requirements. In consultation with you the client, we will be able to find a requirement specification that fits your product.
